Having a heart attack yet? Don't. He isn't retiring from the world of comedy or anything like that, quite the opposite. Ricky Gervais just signed to to star in his first American movie. He will play the lead role in "Early Retirement." He is gonna flip the script on the "Dad spends the entire movie working hard only to realize at the end that he has been neglecting his family" genre. In this movie, the dad realizes that at the beginning, quits his job, and realizes family life aint all sunshine and roses.
No word on costars or who is set to direct. However, the film is being written by
Mark Perez, who wrote the criminally underrated "Accepted." Look for the movie next year. Congrats Ricky! You've finally entered the world of mediocre American cinema.
Several sources report that Ricky has signed on to appear in several episodes of the hit NBC show "Heroes" this season. No word on whether he will appear as a hero or a villain, but he had BETTER have powers. He can play a man with the uncanny knack of bringing the awkward out of any mundane situation. Or maybe a man who shoots British Emmys out of his fingertips. Or maybe he can play a successful and hilarious man who, for some reason, decided to appear in "Night at the Museum."
In any event, "Heroes" premieres September 23rd. Look for Ricky sometime later in the season.
