Having a heart attack yet? Don't. He isn't retiring from the world of comedy or anything like that, quite the opposite. Ricky Gervais just signed to to star in his first American movie. He will play the lead role in "Early Retirement." He is gonna flip the script on the "Dad spends the entire movie working hard only to realize at the end that he has been neglecting his family" genre. In this movie, the dad realizes that at the beginning, quits his job, and realizes family life aint all sunshine and roses.
No word on costars or who is set to direct. However, the film is being written by
Mark Perez, who wrote the criminally underrated "Accepted." Look for the movie next year. Congrats Ricky! You've finally entered the world of mediocre American cinema.
Several sources report that Ricky has signed on to appear in several episodes of the hit NBC show "Heroes" this season. No word on whether he will appear as a hero or a villain, but he had BETTER have powers. He can play a man with the uncanny knack of bringing the awkward out of any mundane situation. Or maybe a man who shoots British Emmys out of his fingertips. Or maybe he can play a successful and hilarious man who, for some reason, decided to appear in "Night at the Museum."
In any event, "Heroes" premieres September 23rd. Look for Ricky sometime later in the season.

Here is a recent clip featuring Ricky Gervais sitting down to dinner with that whirling dervish Chef Gordon Ramsay. When Ricky starts hassling Gordon over killing and cooking his pet sheep I nearly spit out the vintage Pinot I was drinking. Ok so it was box wine. Same difference.
This clip was culled from a new Ramsay show that has yet to air. And now we have another Gervais factoid to add to our growing list: He likes shepard's pie. You learn something everyday.

Check out this funny billboard Ricky erected to advertise an upcoming sold-out gig. If my computer wasn't rotting away in Geek Squad hell at the moment, I'd photoshop up some alternatives. For now, just imagine you are seeing these on a billboard:
Ricky Gervais at Edinburgh Castle is sold out-You really missed the boat on that one
Ricky Gervais has sold out at Edinburgh Castle - We always knew his values were a sham.
Ricky Gervais at Edinburgh Castle is sold out - There are comedy gigs in castles? What's next? The Louvre?

Ricky Gervais might be taking a turn away from playing the snarky everyman to try out the romantic comedy genre.
Gervais will play a miserly dentist who sees a dead businessman's spirit following a near fatal operation and tries to stop the deceased's wife from remarrying.
We are sure Ricky will steal all of the scenes!

According to the
Telegraph , Ricky Gervais is making quite a scene at his new home. Can't blame him really, I think everyone would like to customize their home right?
From the "official" Ricky fan site:
Last time we spoke, you were looking for a new house. Have you found one?
Yeah, and we are moving out of central London.
Really? Where to?
Hampstead. It's near Jonathan Ross, David Baddiel and the Paltrow-Martins. So I've already got a social network set up! Jonathan's got the tennis court, Chris Martin has a tabletennis table and I'll have a virtual golf course. An indoor golf range. I'm spending my earnings on toys ... [Shakes his head in disbelief.]
